Surface-based scoring for molecule alignment

A major goal of pharmaceutical research is to find small molecules that show activity towards a target protein. Often, information about the target protein is not available, so methods based on known active molecules are used. Most of these methods are based on accurate structural overlay of known active molecules. A new scoring function for molecular overlay techniques could therefore offer a new perspective for subsequent methods.
