New Research Group MLBI (Machine Learning in Bioinofrmatics)
14. Juli 2025
The Machine Learning in Bioinformatics (MLBI) group has opened its doors at the Center for Bioinformatics, located right in the heart of the aspiring Science City Bahrenfeld (Albert-Einstein-Ring).
“We have had a pleasant arrival here in Hamburg, experienced invaluable support by the many friendly colleagues and now are more than happy to be part of this excellent department in the greater UHH universe.”, says group leader Fabian Kern.
The MLBI group is interested in pushing the fundamental boundaries in Machine Learning, to systematically investigate the transfer potential for solutions to challenging molecular and biomedical problems, appearing in drug discovery or single-cell research. We are particularly interested in combining statistical learning from large high-dimensional data sets with different symbolic representations to create knowledge-informed AI and agent-based systems for the natural sciences domain.
In the coming terms, we will offer newly designed lectures and seminars focused on the development and application of Machine as well as Deep Learning in Bioinformatics in several study programs. We also warmly welcome students interested in Bachelor’s and Master’s theses and look forward to working with you. There will be more job postings coming, and we are always open to chat about your ideas for research assistant positions, even beyond Bioinformatics applications. Feel free to get in touch for scientific collaboration.
